What symptoms can be helped with hypnotherapy?
Anything that involves anxiety, depression or anger i.e.- insomnia, confidence, phobia, weight control, panic attacks, migraine, unresolved grief, PTSD, blushing, public speaking, tinnitus, exam nerves, jealousy, motivation, OCD, sexual problems, conception, bed wetting, IBS and habits such as smoking, nail biting, stammering, hair pulling, self harming and addictions such as drugs, alcohol, work, sex, gambolling and focusing on sport performance, motivation etc.
What is hypnosis? - will you take control of my mind and will I do silly things?
No! You remain in control at all times, although you will feel very relaxed. Hypnosis is a natural day-dreaming state that we go into roughly every 7 minutes. You are in an altered state of consciousness where the subconscious mind is receptive and will respond to suggestions made. That’s why T.V. adverts are successful as we go into trance when we watch them. You cannot be made to do anything against your beliefs or values.
What happens when I first come and see you?
During the free initial consultation of half and hour you will tell me what you would like to change. I will explain the mind to help you understand why we experience depression, anxiety and anger and how our inappropriate emotions were survival mechanisms in primitive times. I will give you some tips of ways to think differently about your life. I will also give you a hypnosis CD / Audio to listen to at home before we meet again. Confidentiality is guaranteed and you will receive professional treatment and the very best of care.
What is the rest of the treatment like?
Every session is structured and positive; concentrating on solutions and finding your unique resources and skills. We will not look at the past and problems, instead concentrating on where you want to be and how to get there. It is relaxing, motivating and enthusiastic.
How many sessions will it take?
I will give you an estimate on session one, but generally speaking -
Smoking is one session of 2 hours.
Phobia / motivation / public speaking / exam nerves etc. are 3-5 sessions and all other symptoms take between 6 - 12 sessions.
You are not committed to a specific number of sessions, although coming regularly at first is necessary as change occurs quicker at the beginning. We can space sessions out to suit us both after this.
How is it different from counselling?
Firstly we do not talk about the past and problems as this often creates more depression and anxiety. I use Solution-Focused Questions to find out where you want to be in your life. Secondly we use hypnosis to cement the new ideas talked about. In this way, the therapy is powerful, achieves results quickly and is future-focused.
How much does hypnotherapy cost?
The Initial Consultation of half and hour is free and each session is £60 thereafter. Smoking is £130.00
Where do you work?
I work from two central clinics in Bristol in Cotham and St Pauls (near Cabot Circus) I have appointments throughout the week, including evenings.
